Connecting to the BT Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)
Our Asterisk IP PBX's are designed for VoIP and SIP trunks from the ground up (unlike traditional PBX's which often have this feature added as an afterthought), however uniquely in this market, they can connect to any current type of BT line, and are also totally future-proofed as being a modular system, additional cards can be added in the future to connect to new technologies as they emerge. Whilst most companies prefer to connect using VoIP SIP trunks primarily to reduce costs (as well as provide unparallelled disaster recovery options), we would still always recommend that you have a connection to at least one landline for emergency purposes, and should any IP lines go down you also have a backup route for dialling out.
Using just a single internal Sangoma A200 24 port Expandable Analogue telephony card, we can connect up to 24 standard analogue lines (or any combination of FXS/FXO ports) to our Asterisk based systems, and with the optional carrier-grade hardware echo-cancellation module, this analogue solution still has no rivals.
Using just a single internal Sangoma A500 24 port Expandable ISDN BRI telephony card, we can provide up to 48 simultaneous voice calls by connecting to 24 ISDN2e BRI lines. Telco-grade hardware echo-cancellation is also available as an add-on module to further enhance the abilities of this extraordinary card.
Once again Sangoma offer a range of internal cards used to connect to ISDN30 (E1) lines, with each ISDN30 circuit being able to deliver 30 voice channels. The Sangoma A101 Single port Digital Telephony card can connect to a single E1 circuit providing 30 voice channels, and at the top of the range sits the Sangoma A108 Eight port Digital Telephony card, which is capable of connecting to 8 individual E1 circuits thus providing a staggering 240 simultaneous voice calls, making it ideal for call-centres.
Considered the future of telephony, a VoIP trunk is very much like any other telephone trunk line, the only difference being that the trunk calls are made over an internet connection rather than a traditional landline connection. VoIP trunks run on the SIP standard and provide carrier-grade ISDN quality calls, however unlike traditional landlines where a monthly line rental is payable, you simply pay for the number of simultaneous voice channels you require each month, and this can be increased/decreased at a moments notice making expansion in the future painless.
Telephone call costs are much cheaper too - with most UK landline calls costing around 1p + vat per minute.
Obviously to use a SIP trunk you will need some form of connection to the Internet, so listed below are guidelines for how many concurrent calls each type of Internet connection currently available would be likely to accomodate. Compare this to how many individual ISDN/Analogue lines (not to mention the cost) that would be required to achieve the same thing, and you can see why so many companies are moving to a combination of Voip and SIP for their communication needs.
Standard ADSL Broadband
A standard 500k, 1Mb or 2Mb Broadband line will give you up to 4 voice channels
An ADSL Max home connection will give between 4 and 6 voice channels.
An ADSL Max Premium, 8Mb line will give up to 12 voice channels
An ADSL2+ connection should give up to 16 simultaneous voice channels
16Mb ADSL2+ Annex M
An ADSL2+ Annex M connection will provide approximately 36 simultaneous voice channels. However this is not available in all exchanges yet.
A 2Mb SDSL line will give up to 30 voice channels, however SDSL is not available in all locations
Depending on the speed and capacity of the leased line you can get over 30 simultaneous voice channels
Additional Services and Options for your Business
Traditional Least Cost Routing (LCR)
Using LCR you can save money on your outgoing call costs, by routing calls to your traditional landlines using a CPS or Carrier Pre-Select system - this sounds painful, but trust us, it's anything but. All the routing is done automatically at the telephone exchange, so that you do not need to enter any prefixes when dialling, and the calls are then routed to the destination by the lowest cost possible, and these savings are passed on to you, the caller.
You do not need to purchase any equipment, nor do you need to have any of our telephone systems to use this service. Simply supply us with your name, address and telephone details, and we'll take care of the rest!
Once your services are routed via us, you would normally receive a monthly fully-itemised bill. All calls are charged per second with no minimum call spend whatsoever.
You can also enable your customers to call you for less with a non-geographic number. We can supply 0845, 0844, 0800 and many others, including the new 03 number range. Alternatively you can use them for marketing campaigns, so you can easily track the effectiveness of your advertising.
Geographic Number routing
We are also able to route geographic 01 and 02 numbers. For example, if you want your company to have a London number which seamlessly routes to your Office in Eastbourne provides two immediate benefits - firstly, your business promotes the image that you serve the area in question, and secondly it allows people calling you from that area to do so at local rates, thus improving the chances of attracting more business in this new area.
